DCNR and partners unveil Get Outdoors PA to connect citizens with close-to-home recreation events
Thousands of guided outdoor recreation events this year—from after work hikes to family fishing programs to night-time paddles—will connect people to enriching outdoor experiences through the newly expanded Get Outdoors PA program, DCNR Secretary Ellen Ferretti has announced.
Beginning this past weekend, several partners will be holding “GO” Days on weekends in May and June across the state to introduce people to a variety of outdoor activities.
“Get Outdoors PA programs are successful because they allow people to have fun outdoor experiences in a comfortable, safe setting, guided by a professional who takes the worry out of the outdoors,” Ferretti said. Read more...

DCNR names new manager at Pine Grove Furnace State Park
DCNR has named Sean Benson manager of Pine Grove Furnace State Park in Cumberland County.
“Sean will be overseeing one of our more popular state parks where annual attendance approaches 334,000 visitors a year,” said DCNR Secretary Ellen Ferretti. “He brings a wide range of skills and qualifications from his last assignment that can only enhance the visitor experience at Pine Grove.”
Benson was named to head operations at the 696-acre Pine Grove facility near Gardner, in the mountainous section of southern Cumberland County. Boaters, swimmers and anglers are drawn to the park where the 25-acre Laurel Lake and 1.7- acre Fuller Lake serve as focal points.
A native of Erie, Erie County, Benson will oversee a park enveloped in Michaux State Forest and bisected by the Appalachian Trail. Steeped in natural beauty, the park contains a variety of historical features closely tied to the early iron ore industry. For more information on Pine Grove Furnace, visit here.

Nature Detectives at Frances Slocum State Park
May 17. Held 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Join the park naturalist for a nature exploration off the breaten path. We'll turn over rocks and logs and use dip nets in the pond. This is not a walk along a trail, we'll be exploring the woods. Wear shoes that can get wet and muddy. Meet at the gravel parking area on the left at the bottom of Campground Road. PA Wilds 2014 Partnership Summit and Awards Dinner
May 15. Held 4:30 - 8:00 p.m. Recognizing outstanding work at the local level to grow the Pennsylvania Wilds region’s outdoor recreation economy, the "Champion of the Pennsylvania Wilds" awards will be held at the Red Fern, 421 Old Kersey Road, Kersey, Pa.
